Our Philosophy

Spirit of Music

More Than Just Notes

In Irish culture, music is the heartbeat of the community. It is a language of joy, history, and deep connection. At NY Irish Music School, we do not just teach you how to play an instrument; we immerse you in the living, breathing spirit of a tradition that has been passed down through generations.

Our Core Values

Community

Music is meant to be shared. We foster a highly supportive environment where students play together, listen to one another, and build lifelong friendships.

Authenticity

We honor the legendary musicians who came before us by teaching the traditional repertoire, techniques, and regional styles with absolute respect.

Joy of Playing

Above all, playing traditional music should be incredibly fun. We focus on building confidence so every student experiences the pure thrill of a good tune.

The Session Culture

The traditional Irish music “session” (seisiún) is a unique cultural phenomenon. It is an informal gathering where musicians come together to share tunes, stories, and craic (fun).
Our ultimate goal is to prepare our students to confidently walk into any session, anywhere in the world, and join in the music seamlessly. We bring this collaborative etiquette and welcoming spirit into our classrooms from day one.

"Passing on the tradition, one tune at a time."

Wall of Inspiration

A collection of legendary albums and artists that shape our teaching and embody the true spirit of Irish music.
